After Egypt and Jorden, United Arab Emirates became the third country to establish diplomatic relations with Israel. Israel – United Arab Emirates (UAE) relations were formally established on 13 August 2020 when the UAE recognized Israel as a state , and the two countries established public diplomatic and economic relations . On 16 August 2020 , Israel and UAE inaugurated direct telephone services . The Emirati APEX National Investment and Israel’s Tera Group signed an agreement to partner in research on COVID-19, making it the first business deal signed between companies of ties .
The international recognition of Israel is disputed by some countries . 163 out of 193 the UN member states recognise Israel. Many Muslim countries do not recognise Israel because they argue that historically no country like Israel exists. Originally the land is of Palestinians , forcefully Jews came and settled there and they are now capturing the land and because of this Israel has suffered hostility many a times. 16 of the 22 members of the Arab League: Behrain , Djibouti, Iraq, Quwait , Lebanon , Comoros ,Libya ,Morocco ,Oman, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Sudan, Somalia,Yemen do not recognise Israel.
UAE and Israel, under the benevolent gaze of US President Donald Trump, signed an agreement to “normalise” relations. Trump earns a diplomatic feather before the November elections, and this may bump up some of his flagging support among the Jews. Even Joe Biden has welcomed the deal. And with Trump asking allies to step up on burden-sharing, it gives UAE and Israel an opening to become bigger players.
ISRAEL-UNITED ARAB EMIRATES ACCORD
Israel-United Arab Emirates accord will be known as “Abraham Accord” . Why Abraham? Abraham, was the father of all three great faiths . HE is referred to as “Abraham” in Christian faith, “Ibrahim” in Muslim faith, and “Avraham” in the Jewish faith . They all say that we all are the successor of Abraham . And Judaism is known as an Abrahamic religion.
International reaction
Different reactions are coming up from the different countries . Neither everyone is appreciating it nor everyone is criticising it. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the deal to normalise ties between the Jewish state and the UAE. “Today a new era began in the relations between Israel and the Arab world” he said at a televised press conference . Along with this, he also said that their plans to annex the west bank will not stop. The UAE said its deal with Israel was “a bold step” to secure a two state solution to the long-running Israel-Palestinian conflict. When it was asked about the two countries will open embassies , UAE said they did not want to speculate a timeframe. Iran’s Tasnim news agency , which is affiliated to the country’s elite Revolutionary Guards , said the Israel-UAE deal was “shameful”. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi praised the US brokered deal between Israel and the UAE. Turkish President said “History will definitely record defeat of those who betray Palestinian people, their cause”.
Delegation from Israel and the UAE will meet in the coming days to sign bilateral agreements regarding investments , security , direct flights , tourism , technology , telecommunications, technology , healthcare , culture, etc. and other areas of mutual benefit . Opening ties between two of the Middle East’s most dynamic growth , enhancing technological innovation , and forging closer people to people relations.
