My pick for today, is the most awaited film of SushantS ingh Rajput, “Dil Bechara” which is directed by Mukesh Chhabra, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjana Sanghi, Saif Ali Khan. the film is available on Disney+ Hotstar. This is Mukesh Chhabra’s first film and is quiet a competent one. Dil Bechara is a simple romantic drama that has a heartwarming performance by both the actors. The movie released after Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise. It’s quite hard to experience the movie in this light with a sense of loss.
The film is set in Jameshedpur and revolves around the lives of two cancer patients, Sanjana Sanghi as Kizzie Basu and Sushant Singh Rajput as Manny. At first Kizzie ignores Manny but later she falls for him due to his vivacious character. Kizzie’s dream is to meet her favorite singer Abhimanyu Veer and wants to know the reason as to why he left his last song incomplete.Manny is full of life, has a charming personality with his adorable performance in the entire film. He has aprostheticleg, time is running out for the young couple but they are determined to conquer their dream. This movie is about disease, distress and death,highlighting the brighter side of life through the tears of fear for losing their loved ones. The movie starts with an early dance number of Manny, and it show his love for Rajinikanth. Kizzie lives with her parents and has planned with Manny, a trip to Paris to meet Abhimanyu Veer. Sanjana Sanghihas made a memorable debut, by giving a mind-blowing performance. AR Rahman’s sound track keeps us afloat, with his music as the behind the screen hero of the film. It has played a superb role in narrating the movie. Kizzie’s constant campanion is her oxygen cylinder “Pushpinder” that she always lugs around.
The film passes us a message of laughter at the time of death which makes us cry. The most famous dialogue of the film goes, ” Janamkablenahai or marnakabhai, yeh hm decidenahikarsktehai, lekinkaisejeenahai wo hum decide karsktehai”(We cannot decide when to be born or when to die, however we can decide how to lead life).This dialogue makes us all emotional.Both Manny and Kizzie,shoot a Bhojpuri movie together for Manny’s close friend Jadish Pandey (JP), whose dream is to direct a film before losing his eyesight due to cancer.When they reach Parisand finally meet Abhimanyu Veer, Kizzierealises there she has fallen in love with Manny. However, Manny soon passes away, JP’s movie starring Kizzie and Manny gets released making the audiencefallfor him even more.
The movie leaves you in a puddle of emotions. This being the last movie of SushantSinghRajput, depicts a high level of talent, skill and craft of the actor. This movie reveals the pain and suffering of cancer patients and the mental agony, pain faced by their parents. This movie helps the audience in overcoming the cancer stigma and is a tribute to the legacy of Sushant Singh Rajput.
